Protection of Intellectual Property
CFR 2/11 Compliance
Protection of intellectual property is of utmost importance in many projects. The laboratory notebook, as a document, is often utilized as a way to protect intellectual property legally. The paradigm of paper notebooks being used in this way is fairly well established. A common practice is the signing and dating of the entries performed by the person(s) making it. Additionally, the entries are sometimes witnessed by another individual. A key aspect of the legal protection afforded by such a paper and pen notebook is that entries cannot be modified in the future and thus entries can serve as a way to keep track of when innovations occurred.
The digital age has brought with it the reexamination of how these concepts apply to information storage on the internet.
e-nnovate's interface has been designed to simplify some of the procedures that can be used to increase the security and validity of your entries. These include inability to change entries after they have been signed, witnessing and change/access tracking. To see if your legal needs are met by these features, please consult the legal counsel in your institution.
